Artist Website

Nearly every mainstream artist will host a website for fans to view. Most artist website show seven different sections:


1. Homepage - This is the first page that loads up when visiting a any website


2. News - Information regarding anything that tge artist is up to or  upcoming events (often news of ablum release dates, tour dates etc.)


3. Live/Tour dates - The artist will host dates and locations of live shows


4. Picture/Video - Allows fans/user to view live performance videos and often general pictures of the artist


5. Lyrics - Here users can view lyrics for any songs created by the artist


6. contact - This page allows users to view contact information such as telephone numbers, emails, addresses etc.


7. Store - Most artists host an online shop within there website to sell specific artist mechandise to increase sales

Andrew Goodwin's 6 feature of Music Videos

In Goodwin's book 'Dancing in the Distraction Factory' Andrew Goodwin points out characteristics and features that can be found in music videos.

1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics
(e.g. stage performance in metal videos, dance routine for boy/girl band, aspiration in Hip Hop)

2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals
The lyrics are represented with images (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting)

3. There is a relationship between music and visuals
The tone and atmosphere of the visual reflects that of the music (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting)

4, The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which reoccur across their work (a visual style)

5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, mirrors, stages, etc.) particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body

6. There are often inter textual reference (to films, TV programmes, other music video etc.)
