Codes and Conventions of a Music Artist Website

The main thing that the website needs to have to be effective is that it has to be clear, logical and easy to navigate.
As you can see from the Skrillex website on the left it is very clearly laid out. At the top of the page says the artists name in the same font and style as it always is so its easily recognisable. Underneath that are the hyperlinks leading you to all of the parts of the website.

Although this website does mainly follow normal codes and convetions it does go against them occasionally. In this case the Skrillex website doesnt have the normal grid system, its laid out more like a blog with live updates people will be intersted in. At the side of the website it has some of the main hyperlinks from the top of the page but with more information about it. For example, with "Tour" it has the upcoming dates in it.

Skream

Skream

Skream, (Oliver Dene Jones of West Wickham, Bromley, London) is a dubstep producer based Croydon. He was one of Dubstep’s first and most prominent producers; he has played an important role in the genre’s development. Skream is also part of the mainstream dubstep group, Magnetic Man along with Benga and Artwork. As a teenager, Skream worked at Big Apple Records, a Croydon based record store that was at the centre of the early dubstep scene. Prior to this Skream had been acquainted with Hatcha another dubstep pioneer through Skream’s brother, who worked on a dance floor at the Big Apple Records studio. As a result of this, Hatcha was one of the first to play Skream dubplates. Skream began producing music at the age of 15 (using Fruity Loops) and claims to now have roughly 8000 songs in varying stages of development, including a number of early disco and funk inspired records. Skream's early productions were often with another alumnus of Big Apple, Benga, and are of a decidedly darker and less melodic nature than later releases. Skream became a mainstream artist and begun to rise in popularity and fame. He has produced hundreds of songs that he has created from scratch but also very professional remixes of original songs.
I have also uploaded some of Skream's, in my opinion, best dubstep remixes ranging from 2009 to 2011.

Group Meeting - 3/11/11

Today Me and Sam held a group meeting to talk about our final ideas of what we wanted to do for our video. Although we were keen on our original ideas, we were both thought about what we were doing and decided it needed a change. Sol suggested to change the song to Cassius - I Love You So (Skream Remix) and after listening to the song it seemed right for the style of video we are looking to produce.

As we are changing the song we are using, we will need to complete research on the artist, and also listen to the song for inspiration, and to help with developing a main project idea including good ideas of the shots we need to support the song.

Delphic - "This Momentary" (Skream Remix)

Example vs. Laidback Luke - "Natural Disaster" (Skream Remix)

Miles Kane - Rearrange (Skream Remix)
